Acclaimed Actress Diane Ladd, Famed For Alice Doesn’t Live Here Anymore, Passes Away at Age 89.

This Oscar-nominated performer Diane Ladd passed away 89 years old.

This actor, with filmography featured National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation, died at her home in California’s Ojai. The news was shared through a message shared by her child, Oscar-winning actor Laura Dern, her daughter.

Dern, who starred with her mom in several movies such as Wild at Heart, described her as “my wonderful hero and my special gift of a mother”, stating that she was present during her final moments.

“She was an exceptional grandmother, mother, daughter, performer, creative along with caring individual that felt like a dream come true,” she expressed. “We were blessed to have her. She is now with the angels.”

Initial Roles and Breakthrough

The start of her career featured small roles in television programs such as Perry Mason whereas the seventies saw her starring alongside actor Jack Nicholson in the film Chinatown.

That very year, the year 1974, she appeared with Ellen Burstyn in the Martin Scorsese praised dramatic comedy Alice Doesn’t Live Here Anymore, a classic. Her role brought Ladd an Academy Award nomination in the supporting actress category.

Later Decades

Throughout the 1980s, she appeared in the dramatic film Black Widow and funny follow-up Christmas Vacation and appeared on the sitcom Alice, a television series inspired by the film Alice Doesn’t Live Here Anymore.

In the subsequent decade, she earned an additional Oscar nomination for supporting actress nomination for her part in Lynch’s Wild at Heart, a cult classic where she acted as the parent of her real-life daughter the character played by Dern. The following year she obtained a further nomination for her performance in Rambling Rose, another movie which also starred Dern.

“This was the picture that the late Princess Diana picked as her top choice, and she flew us to England for a special screening and a party dedicated to us,” Ladd said regarding Rambling Rose. “She positioned herself between us, grasping our hands, with tears, watching us perform.”

That decade also saw roles in humorous films Cemetery Club, a film joining her again with Burstyn, Primary Colors, a political story, a political comedy, with John Travolta and Alexander Payne’s the movie Citizen Ruth where she acted as the mother of Dern another time. The decade also brought her nominations for Emmy Awards for performances in Dr Quinn, Medicine Woman, Grace Under Fire and Touched by an Angel, a drama.

Partnerships with Her Daughter

She continued to star with her daughter in dramatic comedies Daddy and Them, David Lynch’s Inland Empire, a surreal film and White’s dark comedy series the program Enlightened. She was also seen next to actress Sandra Bullock in 28 Days, Sir Anthony Hopkins in that movie plus Jennifer Lawrence in Joy.

Her more recent television parts consisted of Ray Donovan and Young Sheldon, a comedy.

Filmmaking Ventures
