Canada's Blue Jays Earn World Series Matchup With defending champion Dodgers

George Springer celebrating

George Springer contributed to the Astros securing the championship in the 2017 season.

Toronto's Blue Jays advanced to their maiden World Series after 1993 by beating the Mariners in the seventh Game 7 of the American League Championship Series.

Down three runs to one, outfielder George Springer hit a three-run blast in the seventh frame, leading the sole Canadian team in MLB to a 4-3 series triumph in the seven-game series. They will now face the defending champions, the team that is the current crown, in the upcoming championship.

"I'm just so happy for this squad, Toronto, Canada," commented Springer, an integral part of the Astros team that claimed the 2017 title. "This is such an amazing experience."

George Springer has now slugged 23 total post-season home runs, placing him third all-time after Manny Ramirez (29) and Altuve (twenty-seven).

"It's hard to imagine another person in the world that I'd choose in that moment other than George Springer with his playoff prowess," remarked Blue Jays manager John Schneider.

The Mariners, despite leading the series two games to none and three games to two, remain the sole team yet to make an appearance in a Fall Classic.

Wilson commented "certainly that it's going to sting" after his team's loss at Rogers Centre, but commended their efforts in the campaign.

"They're an exceptional squad. It's a shame that we finished on the losing end of this game," he remarked.

The Blue Jays claimed the championship on each of their earlier trips in 1992 and '93, and will host the Los Angeles in the first game on this Friday.
