Critical Role Season Four Introduces the Warriors Party

Ever since the premiere of Campaign 4, fresh DM Brennan Mulligan has kept fans guessing with deep backstory, a diverse cast of heroes, and a exciting storyline showcasing celestial beings, fiends, and malevolent powers increasing in influence within the city.

Note: Revealing details for the third episode of Campaign 4 are included.

The Combat-Oriented Party Revealed

Episode 3 ended with a dramatic pause and presented the initial group of characters who will separate from the main group to begin their separate journey, distinct from the additional parties.

The Soldiers table features Teor Pridesire (played by the voice actor), the nimble rogue (Laura Bailey), Tyranny (Whitney), the cleric (Sam), and Kattigan (Robbie Daymond).

Why Split the Party?

With a large ensemble, it was clear from the outset that keeping everyone at the same party would be unfeasible.

Hence, the opening chapters of this story serve as an Introduction, weaving together the personal journeys before splitting into three smaller tables: Soldiers, Planners, and Explorers.

The Nature of the Combat Party

As described by Brennan Lee Mulligan, the Soldiers table is for adventurers who are drawn to a traditionally charged fight-heavy gameplay experience where peaceful solutions are few and far between.

Initially, characters like the squeamish cleric Wicander might appear unsuited, but the events of the third episode make it clear why these five characters are ideally matched for the warrior group.

Motivations for Departure

First, the party has a clear idea where to head next after a intense first encounter with The Crow Keepers.

Casimir of Thjazi—whose demise started the narrative’s action—manipulated the foes for his selfish purposes, invading the hidden lair, attacking Thimble, and swiping all the enchanted items to sell off.

Casimir then cleared his liabilities and escaped to a Halovar stronghouse in Gormalay, Timmony, north of the city, with Teor’s brother close behind.

Personal Motivations

Moreover, each character has a personal reason to leave the city the metropolitan area:

  • The agile hero, as Thjazi’s partner and best friend, wants revenge.
  • Kattigan is familiar with the northern area and warns that it is a hostile environment.
  • Tyranny and The healer, having resisted his family’s wishes to eliminate the fighter and instead freed him, have no other options.
  • However, their position as key figures in the powerful family could enable the team reach locations they typically wouldn’t be able to.
  • Furthermore, Teor pledged a eternal obligation to Wicander for his rescue and will now accompany him anywhere.

Pursued by Authorities

Lastly, all of them are wanted by the rulers that rule the setting for a variety of reasons, making lingering locally too risky:

  • The agile adventurer and The character are recognized lawbreakers.
  • The strong figure and Wicander defied House Halovar and the legion of demons they are aligned with.
  • Teor is targeted for elimination by House Halovar.

This results in them little choice but to head to the northern region in pursuit of Casimir.

What’s Next?

Based on episode three’s Cooldown, we learn that the combat party will be absent in the upcoming installment, leaving the other eight participants to form the Questers and Strategists groups.

Audiences can look forward to finding out which characters will be where in Campaign 4’s last Overture episode, streaming live on next week.
