The Latest Casual Playlist Sparks Intense Discussions Over Bots, Experience Points, and Queue Times

Over the weekend, the game developers introduced a new game mode called Relaxed Breakthrough. In essence, this mode mirrors the regular Breakthrough format but features a few notable adjustments:

  • Each team has only eight real players, with the remaining made up of AI-controlled opponents.
  • Actions performed by real players grant full XP, while AI activities provide lower rewards.
  • Only two locations can be played: Cairo Siege and Empire State map.
  • Features like Dogtags, achievements, and stat tracking are disabled.

So essentially, the playlist delivers on its name: it's a casual version of Breakthrough. On the surface, one could assume there's nothing wrong, since it gives additional choices for players looking for different ways to enjoy the title. However, gaming history has shown one thing, it's that not everyone will be happy. Which is to say, a lot of BF6 players are upset.

Player Reactions: Anger to Support

"Gamers prefer human opponents. Avoid making the errors of your competitors," states one reply to the mode reveal. "Absolutely shocking concept," says a different user. Meanwhile, in community forums, a player remarks, "I have no idea where we are going with this game," and another details all the issues they believe to be broken in the game: "Fix bugs, address drone issues, correct rocket mechanics, fix [the] bloom after sprinting bug, improve hit detection. We do not require this AI-heavy playlist."

However, for every complaint, some gamers explaining how much they're enjoying the new mode. "It's very fun to warm up, human participants keep it from being a complete grind but it's quite laid-back," reads a forum post. "This subreddit doesn't understand that there are players who have lives and can't play this game 24/7. Allow them to strike a balance," adds a different comment. A response via social media explains that as they're "a battledad with limited time, this is great for me," and another praises the mode for "avoiding intense competition."

Constructive Criticisms and Player Feedback

Despite the support, there are valid points to complain about Casual Breakthrough. Some users have highlighted that it will make queue times even longer for other modes because of the sheer number of playlists currently available. Similarly, certain regions already encounter mostly bots in the current modes. It also seems somewhat counterintuitive that the mode does not begin without a minimum number of real players, despite it primarily centers on fighting AI opponents.

Finally, one of the biggest grievances is that a previous feature was promised to provide full XP, even against bots, but that was removed when they tried to remove bot farms from the system. So Casual Breakthrough feels like the player base compromising halfway, according to a Reddit comment. A different user describes this addition as the developers "dropping the ball so hard, I experienced so much fun in the initial release, what prompted them to change it?"

Looking Ahead: Adjustments Occur?

Should the development team has proven anything so far with Battlefield 6, it is that they're listening and responding to feedback. Tasks that were overly hard got fixed rapidly, as did the required Redsec challenges. Chances are that, if their data indicates this new playlist isn't performing to their expectations, they will not hesitate to make further modifications.
