Citizens have gathered across the country to remember two years since the Hamas-conducted assault on that fateful day in October 2023, as discussions proceeded in the neighboring country over a resolution to the hostilities in Gaza.

The incident saw over 1,200 people losing their lives and 251 others captured back to Gaza as prisoners. It was the uniquely deadliest day for Jews since the Holocaust.

Israel reacted by launching a armed campaign in Gaza which has taken more than 67,000 people, as reported by the area's Hamas-run health ministry. Its numbers are considered accurate by the United Nations and other international bodies.

"Our bloodthirsty adversaries have caused great damage, but they have not defeated us," the leader remarked on that day.

He also pledged to "accomplish all the goals of the war: the return of all the kidnapped, the destruction of the Hamas regime and the guarantee that Gaza will never again present a danger to Israel".

Commemorative Gatherings Across Israel

The national leadership postponed formal remembrance events until 16 October - after the conclusion of the Jewish High Holiday season - but ceremonies still were held throughout the country on that day.

A remembrance service for the loved ones of people who lost their lives in the Hamas assault was organized in the coastal city. Organized by the affected families, it was aired throughout Israeli TV networks.

Some time earlier, a minute's silence was respected throughout the country.

Peace Discussions in Egypt

Simultaneously, Israeli and Hamas delegations gathered in the North African tourist destination of Sharm el-Sheikh for a second day of mediated discussions to review the conditions of the plan.

A high-ranking delegate familiar with the talks indicated that an late session of negotiations commenced at 19:00 Cairo time.

The official explained the morning session ended without concrete outcomes, due to differences over the recommended Israeli pullout plans from Gaza and over assurances Hamas seeks to ensure Israel does not recommence combat after the initial stage of the agreement.

He noted that the talks are "difficult and have not yet achieve any significant progress," but noted that intermediaries are working hard to close the differences between the conflicting groups.

Essential Matters in Talks

  • A permanent truce
  • The trade of the prisoners still held by Hamas for detainees from Gaza
  • The removal of Israeli forces from Gaza
  • Measures for humanitarian aid distribution
  • Future management of the area

Civilian Feeling

In Tel Aviv's Hostages Square that day, 29-year-old Hagar - whose brother survived the attack on the outdoor event, where many attendees were lost their lives and many more were taken hostage by Hamas gunmen - explained: "No location appears as home anymore and until every captive are released not a single person will be secure."

"After we see all home again, we can relax again. Then we can begin to heal," she added.

Near the prime minister's official dwelling in Jerusalem, people gathered to show their backing for the loved ones of the captives. Israel reports nearly fifty stay in detention in Gaza, approximately twenty of whom are considered to be alive.

Demonstrator Atalia Regev remarked: "We need do every compromise required for the captives to come back home. But we really want guarantees that we will be secure."

Surveys now frequently demonstrate that around seventy percent of Israelis want the hostilities to end in as payment for the liberation of the hostages.

Gaza Conditions

At the site of the gathering, those paying respects came together to pay their respects.

From that location, the boom of military attacks and artillery could be detected just a short distance away in Gaza, where observers said the intense Israeli bombardment continued.

In the urban center, bombardments were noted in the dawn of Tuesday in the western neighborhood, sector and Nasr areas and in the east side neighbourhood of the community, as well the camp to the northwestern area.

"As the evening falls, the anxiety comes with it," displaced Gaza City resident a mother, whose 17-year-old son was died by an Israeli aerial attack last year, shared.

"We are fearful of the attacks. During nighttime we are resting together, holding each other, especially my smallest child who puts his head on me the entire evening."

"Continuously we look at the reports to see developments. And I'm afraid that this halt will not be finalized and that the conflict will come back to us."

Humanitarian Situation

The healthcare center in Gaza City said it had accepted the corpses of several people by the midday, including several who died in an Israeli attack in the south part al-Sabra neighbourhood.

Another medical facility in the southern urban center of that area indicated another two dead people had been delivered. One of them was killed by Israeli soldiers while seeking help to the south region, health workers said.

The region's health ministry said a significant number of the {territ
