Ukrainian authorities have declared the start of large-scale manufacturing for an innovative locally engineered interceptor drone to strengthen its aerial protection systems. The first three producers have started production, with 11 more getting ready to establish assembly lines, the defence ministry announced on Friday.

'Octopus' Technology Tested in Battlefield Situations

The drones will be based on a domestically developed system known as “Octopus” designed to neutralize Shahed drones. This technology has been tested in combat and proved successful “at night, amid electronic warfare and flying low,” the ministry confirmed. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy established an ambitious goal of producing as many as 1,000 defensive drones daily.

Recent Attack on the Capital Described as Deliberate

The Ukrainian president described Russia’s latest attack on Ukraine as “intentional, premeditated and wicked” after six people lost their lives and many others injured in a wave of nocturnal attacks throughout Kyiv. Air raid sirens activated in Kyiv shortly after midnight on Friday, with enemy UAVs soon heard overhead and intensive defensive fire from Ukrainian air defences.

The president reported the country was hit by 430 drones and multiple missiles. The deceased had been inside their residences in an apartment building on the capital's left bank when it was hit. Numerous of other buildings sustained damage, among them the Azerbaijani embassy.

Diplomatic Objection Following Embassy Damage

Azerbaijan said it issued a formal objection to Moscow's diplomatic representative this past Friday following the destruction at its diplomatic compound. Russian forces were firing 200 to 250 aerial bombs per day, with last month’s daily average being approximately 170, based on defence ministry data.

Ukrainian Attacks Target Russian Energy Infrastructure

Russia’s Black Sea port of the port city temporarily suspended crude shipments on Friday – representing 2% of worldwide oil production – following a Ukrainian missile and drone attack. Ukraine’s general staff stated its forces had fired Neptune cruise missiles and used various types of attack UAVs in the assault against Novorossiysk “as part of operations to diminish the strategic capabilities of the invading force.”

Ukrainian forces separately targeted an oil refinery in the Saratov area and a fuel storage facility in the adjacent Engels region overnight.

International Sanctions Impact Russian Oil Producer

Russia’s second-largest oil producer Lukoil said on Friday it is negotiating with potential buyers regarding its international holdings after recent sanctions from the UK and the US and failure of a deal with the Gunvor trading house. “The specific deal are to be disclosed once conclusive negotiations are completed and required authorizations have been obtained,” the company stated.

Zelenskyy Schedules Diplomatic Trip to Spanish Capital

Volodymyr Zelenskyy is scheduled to travel to the city of Madrid, Madrid, on Tuesday to confer with parliament members following his trip to France, Spanish parliamentary officials announced. The Ukrainian president would meet representatives from all houses of the legislature during his visit, an official announcement confirmed.
